An Afternoon at Play | Homemaker Poetry Series

This poem was inspired by the sweet repose of an afternoon spent playing out of doors after the day’s work was completed.

An Afternoon at Play

By Haley Littlepage

The morning’s passed,

the housework done,

the schoolbooks tucked away.

Sunshine stirs

the weary minds towards

an afternoon at play.

Mud pies, wildflowers,

climbing in the trees.

Bird song, garden frolics,

tumbling in the leaves.

The open air revives the soul

from its weary day.

Imagination reawakened

in an afternoon at play.

Dear Homemaker,

I pray this poem blessed you. May it remind you that while getting the necessary work done for the day is important, so is rest. Let your mind rest and your soul soak in the beauty of creation at the close of a busy day.

Even if all of the work isn’t done, take a few hours out of doors with your children to give you all a necessary moment of reprieve and reset. You can always come back to your work, but a lovely afternoon is gone in a moment.

Happy homemaking!

Humbly,

Haley
